Home of numerous 90+ Parker rated wines, the Tagonius winery is situated in the southeastern corner of the region of Madrid.  It is said that wines from these vineyards were common at the table of the Spanish royalty who discovered them thanks to their proximity to the capital.  Here, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malvar are planted on clay, marl and importantly limestone terraces, useful for their water retention capability. Tagonius spares no expense in making quality wines, this includes the continual purchase of new French and American oak barrels from the best producers, and the patience to let the wines age until they are at their peak.

The winemaking tradition in the Madrid area goes back to the 13th century, when the red wines made here were already known for their strength. For many centuries, the area was known as Tierra de Madrid. There are three distinct DO subzones, all lying at altitudes between 522 and 800 metres. Each subzone has its own character and terrain. Around half the vineyards are in Arganda, the largest subzone. Here the land gently rolls south. Clay and marl terraces lie over granite with a good limestone content. All three subzones have the same continental climate, with long sunshine hours and extreme temperatures. The limited rain and long hot summers are ideal for keeping yields low and providing wines of great concentration.
