 ABOUT RIOJA

about-centenales

Spain’s  best known wine producing region. The Oja river (Rio Oja) is believed to have given the region its name. Rioja was the first region in Spain to be awarded the highest DOCa (Denominacion de Origen Calificada) category, due to its proven record in consistently producing top-quality wines.  Rioja's red wines are typically blends of mostly Tempranillo with a small percentage of Mazuelo (Carignan), Graciano and/or Garnacha. CRIANZA wines are aged for 2 years before release, with at least 12 months in oak. RESERVA wines are aged for 3 years (at least 1 in oak) and GRAN RESERVA wines for 5, of which at least 2 years must be spent in oak barrels.
